School Success involves being able to: calmly go to school; feel connected at school; confidently complete school tasks, ask for help where necessary; and return home without feeling exhausted.
Approximately 1 in 5 children experience school anxiety? And 1 in 4 experience learning difficulties?
I'm passionate about supporting your children throughout their school years.
I believe school success goes way deeper than academic achievement. Academic achievement is not that important.Ok, that's not quite true. While I value academic achievement...
It's not at the top of my list.
School Success involves being able to:
Your child is expected to be at school for 13 years. It's unrealistic they are going to enjoy going every day, or find everything interesting. That is different from your child who is experiencing school can't.
When your child is one of the approximately 1 in 5 children experiencing school anxiety, or 1 in 4 with a learning difficulty, they are much more likely to be part of the 1-2 in 5 experience School Can't/School Refusal.
Understanding your child's difficulties, tackling underlying causes and developing a plan that works for you and your child are what's important to School Success.
**Note 'school' does not necessarily mean a bricks and mortar school, It can include virtual school or home schooling (which are viable options for many children who suffer in a traditional school environment.

- Engagement at school
- Wanting to be a part of the whole school experience - camps, friends, extra curricular activities
- Exploring what brings you joy
- Being happy to be there.
- School success is about waking up, hopping out of bed and calmly leaving the house. Without needing 10 reminders, being yelled at to get a move on because you're going to be late, and searching frantically for clean socks and your left shoe.
- It's turning up at the school gate and saying hi to people you recognise. Not feeling anxiety stricken because you don't know if the one person you rely on is going to be there or not and if they're not you don't want to stay.
- It's sitting in the classroom following instructions and working on the task, not sitting there struggling to hear and understand expectations and being too embarrassed to ask for help.
- Success is feeling proud of your results because you worked hard and achieved. Not feeling ashamed because no matter how hard you work your results are disappointing.
- Success is focusing in the classroom, without being on constant alert for itchy uniforms, loud noises, loss of personal space and fatigue.
- Success is going out to recess, running around and having fun. Not trying to find a place where you can sit by yourself where no-one can see you don't have any friends; or, trying to join in and not understanding why no-one wants to play with you.
- Success is being part of the sports team or drama club or whatever interest you have. Not being too scared to join in because even though you want to it's too scary.
- Success is going on camp and having fun. Not staying at home because you feel too sick to go.
School Success involves being able to:
- calmly attend school,
- feel connected at school,
- confidently complete school tasks, asking for help where necessary, and
- return home feeling a manageable level of tiredness.
